Owners and GG Gemologists

Sandy & Rose Kluh

My Mom's father Walter Lommel was chief of operations for a downtown Seattle Jeweler.  My Dad's mother Idella Kluh was the jewelers first female jewelry buyer. My grandparents hired their children to work the busy Christmas season in 1938. That is how my Mom Sissy Lommel and my Dad Ted Kluh met and started dating.  After that introduction to the jewelry business my Dad continued in retail jewelry for the next 20 years. In 1958 he purchased a small family owned jewelry store in downtown Olympia. The store he purchased actually started in 1938 the same year my parents met. Over the years that store evolved into a small chain of a half dozen stores around Southwest Washington.

In 1983 my brothers and I each bought two stores from Mom and Dad and ventured out on our own. Although we each owned our stores independently they all operated under the Kluh Jewelers name.  Eventually I opened seven mall stores of my own and I've been fortunate enough to have had my children earn their gemology degrees and occasionally work along side me. By 2010 my brothers and I had retired from the jewelry business. In 2012 I came out of retirement and with my wife Rose, also a gemologist, we opened our current location in West Olympia.

85 wonderful years after my grandparents introduced my parents to the jewelry business, my dad passed in 2008 and my mom in 2015.  They built their business on service, trust and confidence and left a legacy of fourth generation jewelers.
